Awareness - The Great Pacific Garbage Patch

I know we’ve posted about this before… however, people need to be reminded of this as it is one of the most significant discoveries / atrocities on our planet.
I’m talking about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. When we first posted about this and I told friends and co-workers, many didn’t believe me - well look for yourself, again.
The patch is roughly 1,760,000 square kilometers or about three times the size of Spain! This plastic soup island mess floats from the surface up to 10 meters in depth. If you aren’t disgusted by this then shame on you… you should be dropped right in the middle and told “Swim for your freedom”.
This obviously has detrimental effects on marine life. It is estimated that this mess kills 1 million sea birds and 100,000 sea mammals every year. And I’m sure most of you can imagine what effect this might have on the food chain. Not to mention the ocean itself which is largely responsible for climate conditions via ocean currents, salt levels, etc. I know this isn’t really professional but holy FUCK.
I suggest:
Stop buying bottles of water! It’s tap water anyway! Duh!
Make sure you recycle anything plastic, DO NOT throw it in the garbage or a sewer. Again, DUH!
Write to the Navy, and every cruise ship company you know of and tell them to suck it! And stop throwing your waste into the sea.

Swine Flu Watch: Google is tracking deaths
Mikael on Apr 27th 2009
I’m sure you have all heard about the Swine Flu pandemic that has been hapenning over the last few days. Well, God Google decided it would be a smart idea to track all the infections and bring panic to the world. The pink markers are suspect, the purple markers are confirmed, and deaths don’t have a black dot in the marker. The yellow one are suppose to represent negative… I think I see three of those.
Anyways, enjoy watching the virus spread…

GM’s Urban Go-Kart!
Mark on Apr 8th 2009
Well not really, but kind of? This is a video of GM’s new concept the P.U.M.A or Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility. I think it looks like a wheelchair with a roll cage but I’d still roll around in one.
GM partnered with Segway (can you tell?) to develop this baby. It is obviously designed for the urban environment where traffic is congested and parking is… a pain in the ass. This phat ride has a range of 35 miles and can reach 35 mph… interesting and get this it costs 35 cents to charge it haha! Why 35? WHY?!?!
Anyway, pretty cool idea, though I don’t see it panning out. I’m only pessimistic because there has been a simpler solution around for decades that could work yet everyone laughs when I bring it up. Golf carts! Think about it, you could establish a green zone around the core of major cities in which only small electric vehicles are allowed to travel, obviously there would be exceptions for shipping companies and food delivery, but it’s plausible, no?
Post your thoughts! no matter how ridiculous…
