The Samsung W7900 AKA “The Show”
Mark on Jan 27th 2009

This is pretty wicccked if you ask me. The phone not only boasts a 5 megapixel camera, a 3.2 inch OLED screen and a digital TV tuner but it also has the capability to display beautiful images at a maximum size of 50 inches. How you ask? With it’s very own built in projector!
This little baby isn’t available to any of us “Westerners” yet, but hopefully soon. The phone is set to release in Korea, then hopefully it will find its way into my pocket. PopSci.com was able to get a sneak peak from DLP projector fabricators Texas Instruments I believe. Anyway, read the full article at PopSci.com.

A little late, but still worth the read. Am, a reader from Toronto brought this to our attention a couple months ago and I forgot about it… sorry Am.
Anyway, robotic engineering has made significant advancements in recent years and it’s no secret that Japan is one of the leaders in this field. So, check the link to see a few of 2008’s best.

Flying Car… or Should I Say ‘Roadable Aircraft’
Mikael on Jan 23rd 2009

The “future” always seems to be portrayed with some sort of flying car (think The Fifth Element movie). Well believe it or not, a Boston-area company plans to begin flight tests this year of a two-seater airplane that doubles as a road vehicle.
The vehicle is called ‘Transition’ and basically ”you sit down behind the steering wheel, drive to the runway, unfold two wings and take off. You can fly 500 miles on a tank of gas — regular unleaded — and when you land, you simply fold up the wings and drive where you want to go.”
The aircraft/vehicle is planned to be in market for 2010 at a nice price tag of $194,000.
Step 1 - Obtain a pilots license
Step 2 - Win the lottery
Step 3 - Debate between purchasing a Transition or an ICON A5

Invisibility, you know you waaaaaaaant it.
Mark on Jan 22nd 2009

(Image borrowed from gearlog.com)
This is “mind blasting!”, I read about a breakthrough in cloaking technology about a year ago, but forgot about it. Recently I was reminded by Erin, a reader in Toronto as she sent me a link. Enjoy.
Researchers at Duke University have built a device that can cloak or make an object invisible! Basically, they have created a meta-material that bends light waves around an object, giving us the impression it isn’t there. I know it may seem hard to understand, but check out the diagrams and explanations on PopSci.com.
This technology has obvious military and intelligence capabilities but is still a long way from commercial use, if ever. Somehow I don’t see the government of any country allowing the sale of invisibility cloaks to the public…. Siggggh. I still want one. Any thoughts?
