Many of you may have heard of holographic storage, but as far as I know researchers were previously uncertain of its full potential. General Electric which has invested 6 years into the research of such technology explains it will come to market by 2012.

The optical storage works by storing the information as holographic bits… crazy. GE researchers claim the new holo-discs can hold up to 500GB of data, comparable to 20 Blue Ray discs or 100 DVDs. Previously, information was stored on thin single layers of metallic material inside a plastic disc. This technology allows data to be stored in the plastic itself. This has also increased the life capacity of the discs with researchers stating discs will last between 50-100 years.

Certainly an exciting development for any techies, DVD collectors, archivers, video games, etc.

Swine Flu Watch: Google is tracking deaths

Mikael on Apr 27th 2009

I’m sure you have all heard about the Swine Flu pandemic that has been hapenning over the last few days. Well, God Google decided it would be a smart idea to track all the infections and bring panic to the world. The pink markers are suspect, the purple markers are confirmed, and deaths don’t have a black dot in the marker. The yellow one are suppose to represent negative… I think I see three of those.

Anyways, enjoy watching the virus spread…

How Much Power Can One Person Have?

Mikael on Apr 23rd 2009

You know how there are certain people in this world who can influence millions by just saying a few words?  Well Oprah Winfrey is definitely one of those people… When Oprah announced that she is going to join Twitter (if you don’t know what Twitter is by now I suggest you check it out) back in mid-April, everyone knew that the online micro-blogging site would see a significant increase in traffic.

But according to market tracker Hitwise, traffic to Twitter went up 43% in a before and after survey of the Oprah Effect. On the day of her first “Tweet”, 37% of visits to Twitter.com were new visitors.

I think the term “Oprah Effect” should be added to the dictionary… How much power does one person need?

Mikael on Apr 22nd 2009

raser_h3_03_2

Well it’s definitely not a Toyota Prius… Actually, it’s the upcoming project from Raser Technologies who plan to unveil a Hummer H3 Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (ReEV) prototype.

Yeah… a Hybrid Hummer. Too bad it’s the H3 though but never the less it gets 40 miles per charge AND 100 miles per gallon once the battery runs out.

A-MA-ZING!
